Cuba through Kiwi eyes
The exhibition Cuba Through Kiwi Eyes celebrated 20 years of diplomatic relations between Cuba and New Zealand and was the result of a photo contest launched by the Cuban Embassy and Havana Coffee Works. Over a thousand entries were received and the best 80 images were chosen to present a Kiwi’s perspective of Cuba while visiting the Caribbean nation.
Several events were held to coincide with the exhibition dates including “Living la Vida Loca”, a presentation by Geoff Marsland (Havana Coffee Works). Geoff shared his stories and experience about doing business in Cuba and Latin America.
Cuba Through Kiwi Eyes was shown in Wellington, Dunedin, Palmerston North, Rotorua and Auckland from 2019 to 2022 coinciding with events such as the Latin America Spanish Film Festival (LASFF), Cuba Dupa Festival and the Aotearoa Cuban Festival.
The exhibition and tour were delivered by the Cuban Embassy New Zealand, with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, Latin American Center for Asia Pacific Excellence (CAPE), Victoria University of Wellington, Cuba Dupa Festival, Havana Coffee Works, Cuban Fusion (Wellington), Palmerston North City Library and Massey University, (Palmerston North), Aotearoa Cuban Festival (Rotorua) and Auckland Cuba Friendship Society (Auckland).
