Kaleidoscope is the result of years of research by Wellington-based guitarist and composer Julie Bevan. The tracks are an eclectic mix of Brazilian and Kiwi music styles. Inspired by her love of Brazilian music and the natural environment, Julie composed most of the tracks while she was travelling in Brazil. The title track “Kaleidoscope” reflects the international fusion that led to creating the wonderful music on the album.

Released in February 2019, Kaleidoscope features 10 tracks. It was produced by Marcelo Nami, a Brazilian composer, producer, and musician. Julie composed six of the tracks, and recorded them live, at Studio Mm in Rio de Janeiro; she recorded four at Surgery Studios in Wellington.

Kaleidoscope was funded largely by Julie, with some support from crowd funding. The album features experienced Brazilian musicians who invested their time and energy into this project, so Julie’s music could be shared with international audiences. It is targeted towards people who love high-quality music, artistic innovation, and original ideas.

Marcelo and Julie are planning to record a second album in late 2023.

“In Kaleidoscope, Julie Bevan merges two different, distinct cultures and translates her impressions and ideas into an original musical language.”
